Hi, I have recently received a copy of S2008 from technet subs, and on install it requires"The user's passwordmust be changed before logging in for the first time"I have tried to do this using so many different combinations but get an error of "unable to update the value provided for the change does not meet the complexity". I,ve tried quite a few times using different combinations has anyone had the same?.

By default the password complexity of Windows Server 2008 is enabled. After installation of Windows Server 2008, the system will ask us to set a complex password before the first logon. The password set must meet the complexity requirements, which means the password lengthshould beat least 7 characters and the password should contain at least three of the following four character groups: English uppercase characters (A through Z) English lowercase characters (a through z) Numerals (0 through 9) Non-alphabetic characters (such as !, $, #, %) Furthermore it may not contain a significant portion of the username. Examples: Password01! P@ssw0rd Pa%%wo4d

Hi, What Sander said nails it. The password complexity is enabled by default on Windows Server 2008. For the consideration of security, especially the server role, we recommend you use complex password in Enterprise product environment. If you don't to use it in test environment, you may simply disable the password complexity with Group Policy as followed. Computer Configuration\Policies\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Account Policies\Password Policy\Password must meet complexity requirements Hope it helps.
